Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani special guest on BFM BUSINESS’ “Les décodeurs de l’Eco” programme

The Chief Executive Officer of the FBF was one of the guests last night on Fabrice Lundy's programme on the subject: "Acquisition of Nickel by BNP Paribas: are FinTechs being absorbed by the "system"?"

Banks are not afraid of competition, they themselves are extremely competitive. The CEO reminded viewers that banks were digital players themselves, and have been for a long while. They are the natural leaders of the digital financial transition. She also discussed the various forms of cooperation required between banks and FinTechs such as incubators set up by the banks, which are innovation labs, and partnerships with dominant players who have excellent knowledge of customers or acquisitions.

When additional growth is needed, business models are always key factors. FinTechs are struggling to find their ideal business model, which is often based on the data economy. Moreover, this is an area of concern for the banking sector, whose role it is to protect the data of its customers.

Finally, she also stressed the importance of regulations, which are extremely complex in financial services, but which meet a specific need: ensuring the security and integrity of systems and the security of infrastructures. She highlighted the involvement of banks in this field. All of this with the common purpose of protecting the customer.
