Press release

Jean-Laurent Bonnafé to take over from Jean-Paul Chifflet as FBF Chairman

The Executive Committee of the French Banking Federation (FBF) has named Jean-Laurent Bonnafé, Director and Chief Executive Officer of BNP Paribas as the next FBF Chairman, beginning 1 September 2013. His term will last one year, in accordance with the professional association's by-laws. At the same time, François Pérol, Chairman of the Management Board of BPCE, will become FBF Vice-Chairman and Michel Lucas, Chairman of the Confédération nationale du Crédit Mutuel, will stay on as FBF Treasurer.

Jean-Laurent Bonnafé replaces Jean-Paul Chifflet, Chief Executive Officer of Crédit Agricole S.A. He will also replace Frédéric Oudéa, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Societe Generale, as Chairman of the French Banking Association. Philippe Wahl, Chairman of the Executive Board of La Banque Postale, is also a member of the FBF Executive Committee.

Created in 2001, the FBF represents all French banks and foreign banks which do business in France. It is involved in all banking and financial regulatory issues in France, Europe, and internationally, and any subject related to banks' role in society.

With nearly 380,000 employees, the French banking sector is one of the largest private employers in France. The sector effectively weathered the crisis and, even while adapting to new regulations, it finances the French economy - households and companies alike - under conditions that compare very favourably with the rest of Europe.
